What are the significant advantages of Steel Truss over traditional wood trusses?

In the field of construction engineering, truss structures play an extremely important role. Traditional wooden trusses have been used for a long time, but with the development of technology, Steel Truss has gradually emerged and demonstrated many significant advantages.
In terms of strength and stability, steel trusses far exceed traditional wooden trusses. Steel has extremely high tensile and compressive strength and can withstand huge loads without being easily deformed. In large-span structures such as stadiums and exhibition halls, steel trusses can easily build a stable framework to ensure the safety of the building under various complex working conditions. However, wooden trusses are limited by the material of the wood itself and have relatively low strength. There are obvious deficiencies in stability when dealing with larger loads or harsh environments.
Durability is also a highlight of steel trusses. Steel has excellent corrosion resistance and weathering resistance. After proper anti-corrosion treatment, it can be used for a long time in harsh climate conditions, and its service life can reach decades or even hundreds of years. In contrast, wood is susceptible to moisture, rot, and insect infestation. Even if it is treated with anti-corrosion and anti-insect treatments, its durability is still difficult to compare with that of steel trusses. This means that buildings using steel trusses will have greatly reduced long-term maintenance costs, reducing the trouble of frequent repairs or replacements due to structural damage.
Steel trusses excel when it comes to design flexibility. Steel is easily machined into a variety of shapes and sizes, allowing complex truss structures to be customized to the unique needs of a building design. Whether it is a special-shaped building or a project with special requirements for space layout, steel trusses can be well satisfied. However, wooden trusses are relatively limited in processing shape and connection methods, making it difficult to realize some innovative design ideas.
From an environmental perspective, steel trusses also have advantages. Steel is a recyclable material. When the building life ends or is renovated, the steel trusses can be recycled and reused, reducing resource waste and environmental impact. Although wood is a renewable resource, it has a long growth cycle and consumes a certain amount of energy and resources during harvesting, transportation and processing.
